History of Textile Vest
Origins and Early History
The concept of the vest, or waistcoat, originated in the 17th century. It is commonly believed that King Charles II of England popularized the waistcoat as part of proper court attire around 1666. The earliest versions of these garments were typically made of luxurious materials like silk, brocade, and velvet, adorned with elaborate embroidery and decorations, reflecting the status and wealth of the wearer
18th and 19th Centuries
As fashion evolved through the 18th and 19th centuries, so did the vest. During this period, vests became an integral part of men’s formal wear, often paired with suits and other formal attire. The materials used remained largely high-end and decorative, but the functionality started to gain more importance. Textile vests began to feature more practical designs, incorporating pockets and a closer fit to the body.
Early 20th Century:
The early 20th century marked a significant shift towards functionality. Textile vests were no longer confined to formal settings but became popular in workwear.
